Neranta
The quantum arm of the house: computing, and more importantly sensing. Years 1–2.
I · The proposition
Justified twice
Two research problems. One obligation to certainty.
Every house eventually acquires a laboratory it cannot justify. The foundation document argues that Neranta is justified twice — and that the two reasons become one.
The name is the founder’s own. She has never explained it.
II · First justification
The founding trade has an expiry date
A house founded in assurance cannot promise fifty-year certainty while treating post-quantum security as somebody else’s research problem.
Deprecation
The foundation records the timetable for deprecating 112-bit algorithms.
Transition
Traditional RSA and elliptic-curve public-key mathematics reach the stated end of the road.
Every certificate the house issues rests on mathematics with a date on it.
III · Second justification
The mines
Prove the ground is empty
Ukraine is described in the foundation as the most heavily mined country on earth. Much clearance is still carried out with induction coils: metal detectors carried at walking pace by a person over ground that may kill them.
Quantum magnetometers built on nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond can read magnetic anomalies at exceptional sensitivity, work at room temperature, and be made small enough to fly on a drone. Neranta’s work is directed toward determining whether that technology can help certify damaged farmland as clear.
The fastest route available to putting the black earth back under the plough.
IV · The connection
Certainty above ground and below it
The two justifications turn out to be one: a house that sells certainty needs mathematics still sound in fifty years, and an oblast cannot be farmed until somebody can prove the ground is empty.
The articles acknowledge that Neranta is furthest from the founder’s present knowledge and most likely to fail. It remains in the register because a house limited to what one person already understands has set its ceiling at one person’s education.
